Unraveling the Mysterious Tales of La Casa de los Enanos
La Casa de los Enanos, or “The House of the Dwarves,” has long been shrouded in legend and mystery. This grand mansion has become the subject of numerous tales, all of which add to its allure and intrigue. One of the most popular legends surrounding the house revolves around two siblings, the last remaining members of their family lineage. It is said that these brother and sister fell in love with each other, and their union resulted in the birth of children with physical deformities and dwarfism. These little ones would roam the mansion’s garden, hidden from the prying eyes of passersby behind the wrought iron bars. The family feared being ridiculed and shamed, hence the need for privacy.
A House with Secrets
Another version of the legend tells the story of a seemingly ordinary family residing in the house. However, they had a daughter with a similar condition to the siblings of the previous tale. This little girl would often peek out into the courtyard, causing panic among onlookers. Consequently, the metal sheets were installed, preventing outsiders from catching a glimpse of her. Only close friends and trusted acquaintances were allowed access to the mansion.
Haunted by the Past
As a construction spanning over two centuries, it is not surprising that whispers of ghosts haunting the house have also emerged. This particular legend is known far and wide, as the imposing presence of the mansion leaves visitors pondering, sparking their imagination and giving birth to countless stories.
Miniature Furniture and the Origin of the Name
One story that stands out as potentially more accurate is that of a family who once dwelled in the house. This family had children, and to ensure they could play comfortably, miniature furniture was commissioned. When these tiny objects were seen in the courtyard, people mistakenly believed that they belonged to small adults. Hence, the mansion began to be referred to as La Casa de los Enanos, or “The House of the Dwarves.”
A Historical Landmark
La Casa de los Enanos has played a significant role in Puebla’s history. Thanks to its legends, the mansion has become a popular tourist attraction. Additionally, it has been featured in various televised productions, such as the 1986 telenovela “Herencia Maldita,” starring renowned actress Angelica Maria, and the 2015 telenovela “Corazón que miente.”
